C’est Ironique Sign of the Weeque

ParisUpdate-MiniNippesPrikThai2

Spotted by Nancy Li.

Two stores in a row, one letter each away from being an Anglophone preteens’ giggle fest. And the little dots on the Mini Nippes sign don’t help any. I sometimes wonder if English is as easy to ridicule in Thai as Thai is in English. For the sake of fairness, not to mention diplomatic parity, I certainly hope so. Examples: there used to be a Thai restaurant in Paris called Kao Pat; Thailand’s wonderful garlic-chili sauce (and the source of about 10 percent of my body mass) is called prik dong; and Miss Thailand 1988 was named Porntip. And now this takeout place on Rue de la Tour d’Auvergne is carrying on what I trust will be an imperishable tradition. David Jaggard
