TEMPLON FÊTES FIFTY YEARS

Distinguished Parisian contemporary art dealer Daniel Templon is celebrating his 50th anniversary in the business with the publication of Daniel Templon, une Histoire d’Art Contemporain (Flammarion), by Julie Verlaine. The story begins with the 21-year-old Templon working out of a basement in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1966 with no capital or art-world cred. It was love at first sight when he discovered the New York Pop, Conceptual and Minimalist artists, and he was one of the first to introduce the likes of Andy Warhol to the French, who at the time were less than receptive to non-homegrown art. Today Templon is still going strong in his gallery near the Centre Pompidou, showing such artists as Gérard Garouste, Yayoi Kusama, Anthony Caro and Robert Longo. Heidi Ellison
