FRENCH FLAG SUBJECTED TO RUDE ACT
The French like to tease Americans about their obsession with their national flag, but a new law now makes it a crime to desecrate the French flag, whether in public or private, and to distribute images of such an act. Desecrating the flag during an officially sanctioned demonstration was already a crime. The new law was proposed after a photo of a man wiping his backside with the red, white and blue flag won a prize in a photo contest in Nice and was widely distributed on the Web.
