Hangar, a young French rock group on the way up.

The five finalists for the Festival Génération Réservoir music contest (sponsored by the Paris club Le Réservoir) performed on Mon. night at the Olympia. The winner, chosen by the audience, was Hangar, a high-enthusiasm rock group from Cap Ferret, near Bordeaux. The prize: they will star in a music video to be broadcast on MTV Pulse. Another performer was last year’s winner, the chanteuse Zaz, who has a slightly croaky voice as powerful as Piaf’s, plenty of pep and great stage presence. While firmly ensconced in the chanson française tradition, she adds a modern touch and a jazzy swing to her act and seems destined for stardom.
