CHEAP SLEEP ON THE RAILS

French train service is among the best and fastest in the world, but a ride on a high-speed TGV train will cost you a pretty centîme. Now, there is a slower alternative for impecunious people with time on their hands: Téoz Eco, a new service from the SNCF (the French railway authority). Beginning on May 21, it will be tested for six months on the Paris line running to Toulouse via Limoges, Brive and Cahors, with one-way tickets costing between €15 and €30 for a second-class ticket (€40 maximum for first class), depending on whether you choose a regular reclining seat or a sleeper, which may be a good idea since the trip to Toulouse will take seven hours. The idea is to take advantage of sleeper trains during the day. Tickets can be reserved online only.
