This could only happen in a suburb of Paris with a Communist mayor (former mayor Jean-Pierre Brard): In need of more cinema screens for local residents, the city of Montreuil effectively shut out two large film distributors interested in opening a multiplex by building its own handsome, spanking-new public cinema/cultural center, Le Méliès (12, place Jean-Jaurès, 93000 Montreuil), with six screens, located right on the main square, across from the town hall and next to the municipal theater. All types of films will be programmed, and admission is only €6 or €45 for 10 films.
