WINE AUCTION RESULTS

The famed Tour d’Argent restaurant raked in over €1.5 million, half a million more than expected, at an auction of 18,000 of the 450,000 bottles from its cellar. At the sale, held Monday and Tuesday at the Piasa auction house, one of the oldest bottles, a 1788 Clos du Griffier, Café Anglais Vieux Cognac, estimated at €2,500-€3,000, sold for €25,000, and many other bottles also sold well over their estimates, including a lot of six bottles of a 1998 Château Haut Brion premier cru, estimated at €420-€480, which brought in €1,400.
