CINEPHILE CITY
We all know that Paris is a city of cinephiles, but the figures are still impressive: In 2012, Paris’s 376 cinemas (including 150 independents and 89 art houses) attracted 27 million spectators. Between 450 and 500 films are shown each week in the city.

ROI DE FROMAGE
Who is the best cheesemonger in France? An Englishman, of course. Matthew Feroze won first prize in Frances Concours National des Fromagers, or cheesemongers championship in Lyon In January. An accountant on leave from his civil-service job, he beat out French competitors in several challenges, culminating in the preparation of a platter of 25 cheeses, into which he slipped a couple of Britains best: Stilton and Cheddar.
