ART DECO CINEMA REBORN
One of the sadder sights in Paris for many years was the Louxor “Palace of Cinema,” which began showing silent films in 1921, sitting abandoned at the crossroads of the Boulevard Magenta and Boulevard de la Chapelle. The city of Paris came to the rescue in 2003 and bought the building,
which had been listed as a historic monument in 1981. Today the neo-Egyptian beauty was reopened as a movie theater with its original decor re-created and two new screening rooms

in the basement. The cinema will show arthouse films, with a special focus on movies from the Southern Hemisphere. There is also a café with a view of the Sacré Cœur. CRILLON SELLS OFF ITS CONTENTS
Now closed for a two-year renovation, the stately Hôtel Crillon on the Place de la Concorde is auctioning off all its contents. Everything must go, from the mirrored bar by French artist César and porcelain by Sonia Rykiel to the reception desk,
Twenty-eight Directoire-style chairs decorated by artists and designers will be auctioned for charity on April 21 at 2:30pm.
Louis XV-and XVI-style furnishings, Lalique crystal chandeliers, wall sconces, mini-bars, towels and bathrobes, as well as the contents of the wine cellar.
